We’re looking for 3–4 international volunteers to support the next Mathagascar programme in Nosy Be during July and August 2027.
You’ll join a practical, friendly learning programme for teenagers aged 14–18. Rather than teaching maths as abstract theory, we use local examples, interactive exercises and games to make it meaningful.
This is an opportunity to contribute time and enthusiasm while working alongside students and other helpers.

Volunteers can help give students the individual attention and encouragement that makes practical learning possible.
The course is taught in French, so you’ll need a decent level of French and a very good grasp of maths. You don’t need to be completely fluent: we’ll help you prepare for the mathematical vocabulary and teaching.
All the course materials are written in English and French, and we have extensive training material recorded in French to help with the key mathematical explanations. As a guide, someone with AS- or A-level French in the UK system should manage well.
There’s also a Malagasy translator on hand, so we have several ways to communicate ideas clearly in the classroom.
Above all, we’re looking for people who enjoy working with teenagers, can explain concepts patiently and will bring energy and encouragement to the lessons. Safeguarding arrangements, supervision and any necessary checks will be confirmed before volunteers are appointed.
Be ready to help teach a five- to six-week programme, timed to align with UK school holidays. Final daily teaching schedules will be confirmed.
Volunteers will need to pay for their own flights to Nosy Be.
Simple self-catering accommodation will be provided for volunteers taking part in the programme.
The planned teaching period is 22 July to 31 August 2027. You will cover your own flights to Nosy Be; simple self-catering accommodation is provided. Please review the commitment and practical arrangements above. The final teaching timetable and volunteer selection process will be confirmed.
Tell us about yourself and your availability for the planned programme between 22 July and 31 August 2027.
